5 ways to choose the most qualified candidate

in Labor Quality

qualified (the dictionary project)Hiring needs can often cause a feeling of anxiety as you question how you will select the ideal staff person to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly. Luckily, the ShiftWise VMS provides health systems with some great tools to select the best candidate possible:

1. Exact vs. Role Match

ShiftWise is able to track your health system’s requirements, whether they are specific to the entire health system, your facility, or even your department.   When a staff is submitted to an order, they will either show up as a “role” or exact” match. A role match is someone who matches the title of the order, but they don’t necessarily meet every single requirement for the job. If your need is urgent, a role match may not be the best option for you, and it could be best to select an “exact” match to avoid lost time managing requirements and credentials.

2. Average Grade

If a staff has previously worked at your health system, you may notice an Average Grade next to their name. If a past supervisor entered an evaluation to rate their overall performance, this could be extremely helpful in quickly identifying a strong candidate versus one who may not be the best fit for your department.

3. Prior Visits

The ShiftWise VMS tracks the number of prior visits a staff has made to your department, or how many past shifts they have worked. If a staff has worked 16 prior shifts in your department, this could be a great indicator that they fit in well and performed at a level that resulted in past managers’ desire for them to return. It could also mean that they are up to date on orientation requirements.

4. Active Credentials/Immunizations/Tests

Staff Profiles in ShiftWise act as electronic files for staff. Staffing vendors are responsible for updating Staff Profiles with the most up-to-date credentials, immunization records, and other required tests. If one staff profile is complete and contains only active credentials, they will quickly stand out as a more ideal candidate than one whose staff profile contains expired or missing requirements.

5. Complete Verifications

Verifications are a tool used in ShiftWise to ensure compliance by allowing managers to check off when various requirements are met in a staff profile. If a staff profile has already been verified by your organization, it could save time by hiring this staff rather than reviewing the requirements for a staff who does not have complete verifications.
